Expect some more A-Trak releases this year and I foresee an album in ze pipeline. Kid Sister is a tongue-in-cheek throwback to the first golden age of hip-hop, when it seemed like anyone, even your kid sister, could have a hit Born Melissa Young in 1980 and raised in the Chicago suburb of Markham, IL, Kid Sister grew up interested in musical theater, but did not pursue a career in music until after she graduated from college.
Encouraged by the burgeoning career of her younger brother Josh Young, also known as J2K of the Chicago DJ duo Flosstradamus, Young adopted the name and persona of Kid Sister in early 2006; with J2K as her DJ and producer, Kid Sister debuted with the giddy single "Pro Nails," which became popular enough as a digital download that Kanye West included a remix with his own guest verse on his summer 2007 mixtape Can't Tell Me Nothing.
I just looked at A-traks pictures on myspace and he used to have one of him and kid sister with the caption, "ahh the early dating phase..." now it's gone! so funny because Today out of the blue I started thinking about that too!
She still has a picture of them up on her pictures that says, "my man loves me in rocawear." There's lots of interviews and info to confirm they did date, but DID THEY BREAK UP?? I remembered those old photographs and for some reason you don't hear much about them.
When I was 13 I took my bar mitzvah money and bought myself some turntables and a mixer. Then I came out of my basement, packed my lunch and won a bunch of world championships. I formed a DJ crew called the Allies with Craze and friends. Then 2 years ago Nick Catchdubs and I founded a new record label: Fool's Gold, dedicated to bringing you the crème de la crop in club music.
Here’s footage of the DJ talking about Kanye West and the mechanics of creating music.
"I think a lot of people are going to be surprised with the fact that there's a bunch of raw hip-hop records on there", according to A-Trak. I think a lot of people are going to be impressed with her growth also because when she made a lot of the records that people have heard by now, she was just starting to rap." In late 2010, Kid Sister released a mix tape titled Kiss Kiss Kiss and in 2014 she released a second mix tape, "Dusk2Dawn: The Diary of Jane Jupiter" in which she tackled more serious, personal subjects.
In 2016 she began working on her second album with UK producer Inflo.
Kid Sister's ethnic background includes African American, Native American, and Caucasian.
She has also admitted to being 215 pounds at one point in her life.
When he went to the show and saw 3,000 people jumping and knowing all his hit songs and knowing all my music, too, I think it all clicked with him even more. "I'm known for building bridges, whether between old and new, between being classic and using turntables, scratching and vinyl and playing really new music from new artists," he says.
